Hello, my favorite paws and peeps! It’s a new year and I’ve got some new, exciting news to share with you. I am delighted to announce that the faithCares program just got bigger. We have a new Service Dog Team and I am pawsitively honored to introduce you to Cpl. Jessenia Ocasio of the USMC and her faithful companion, SADIE MAE.
Though Jessenia enjoyed being a Marine, she is even more excited about attending Coastal Carolina Community College and is pursuing a degree in Criminology. SADIE MAE told me she really enjoys her long walks across campus and she even has her own student ID! SADIE MAE’s beautiful, white coat is an immediate attention grabber and often causes this pair to get unwanted attention. To remedy this, Jessenia is teaching other students on campus about how to properly behave around Service Dogs and reminds them that we are ALWAYS working when our vests are on. So, I guess you could say that Jessenia and SADIE MAE are both students and teachers!
In Jessenia’s spare time, she loves reading, taking nature walks and goes back up north to spend time with family as often as her school schedule allows. She is quite busy with school, doing homework and studying but makes time to play with and continuously train SADIE MAE on new commands to help Jessenia cope with life and daily tasks. SADIE MAE has a little brother at home that is also learning commands and hopes to be a Service Dog one day too.
This pair is purrfect for each other and I am super excited to see what their future endeavors hold. Please welcome this new team to our ever-growing family, and as always, don’t forget to check back later for more updates from yours truly!!!!

My name is FAITH, and I'm a service dog to Sgt Terry White, PH IOF. You've probably seen me around the Market America office or at one of their events. I'm the pretty blonde with the big smile The wonderful maCares team is pretty fond of me, and they've decided to devote each Friday's blog post to my stories, pearls of wisdom, and "tails" of others giving back to their communities. We'll call it "Fridays with Faith". What you may not know about me is that I'm named after someone special. The flag that represents this great country flies high on the flag pole for my namesake's sacrifice. I am named in memory of U.S. Army Sergeant Faith Hinkley, who died on August 7, 2010 in Iskandariya, Iraq. Faith was part of the 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Through me, Faith Hinkley's legacy lives on, helping and healing another wounded soldier. maCares loves making a difference in the lives of veterans and animals. Please consider donating or getting involved with maCares so they can continue supporting veterans and dogs like Terry and me, and honoring heroes like Faith Hinkley.
