Fridays with FAITH – maCares Spotlight: Irene Farone
Some people love lending a PAW; some people love DOGS; some people love spending time with our veterans and us service dog teams….then there is Irene….who loves all of the above!
Irene has been involved with maCares almost since its inception. While attending a Market America World Con-FUR-ence event many years ago as an UnFranchise Business Owner (UFO), she stopped by the maCares booth and fell PAWS over heels in love. Since then, she visits us every year at convention time, keeps PUP-to-date with everyone through Facebook and has even lent her talents as an artist to the teams.
Irene’s love of art began when she went to college to study it. After obtaining her degree, she realized it didn’t pay the bills. So, she went back to school to study accounting. On a whim about 15 years ago, she enrolled in a painting class as a refresher course. Now that she had reawakened her artistic talents, she decided to try her hand at drawing some of us service dogs for maCares. Realizing how much she missed drawing, she went on to draw almost every one of the DOGS and sent them to their HOO-MANS. Irene has also presented some of our team members with color paintings of their service dogs who have unfortunately crossed the Rainbow Bridge, as a memorial tribute to each of them.
Irene keeps busy with her UFO business as well as selling vacation homes in Wisconsin, where she lives. She has a rescue dog, HATTIE, a 120-lb. Great Pyrenees who will be 9 years old in May.
When asked what her favorite thing about maCares was, her response was how much everyone cares about the veterans and the children and adults the program serves. She loves the compassion that everyone shows. And, of course, she loves us DOGS!
Wags and licks,
