Fridays with FAITH – Love with a Passionate Purpose
Hello my FAITH-ful readers! maCares received incredible support from a family close to our hearts this past year. Christian Gattis, brother of maCares sponsored team member Harrison Gattis, opened a small family business called The Stitched Dog. Although he is only 10 years old, he has an incredible passion for helping others and an amazing talent behind the sewing machine!
Previously, Christian had focused on crafting keychains, notebook covers, and zippered coin purses. He sold these items at maCares events and Market America conventions to benefit our Service Dog Support Program.
His company motto is ‘Handmade with Love for a Purpose’ and when the pandemic flipped life upside down for most of us, Christian decided his business had a new purpose.
In March he began making handmade face masks with the help of his mentor (and mother) Sarah Gattis. All masks could be “purchased” with a direct donation to maCares. Orders began rolling in and it quickly became a family affair with everyone pitching in to help cut, sew, package and ship masks all around the United States!
In just a few short months, The Stitched Dog had raised over $8,000 for maCares!! We were shocked and thrilled with the success of The Stitched Dog and we are so grateful to have such a special family on our team! The money raised by Christian will directly impact the life of his little brother Harrison and his service dogs MILES and PARKER. While Harrison is empowered to focus on living life to the fullest, our Service Dog Support Program will be able to provide financial assistance for continual care costs such as re-certification training, veterinary bills, supplements, medications, grooming, and daily supplies like food and treats! We can’t thank you enough Christian, you are a true inspiration and such a wonderful big brother!
If you would like to learn more about what’s happening behind the sewing machine, please check out The Stitched Dog on Facebook and Instagram @TheStitchedDog!
maCares would not be able to make a difference in the lives of others without your continued support. Please visit our website and social media sites to get involved so together we can help more service/guide dog teams and rescued animals in need! We hope to see you soon at an maCares event!
