Fridays with FAITH: Keeping Busy in These Unprecedented Times
It’s been a long year! We pups and our hoomans have all had to make changes in the way we do things….restaurants were only serving takeout (no more licking the scraps off the floor); fitness centers and bars were closed; we weren’t allowed to enter a bank to conduct our hooman’s personal or business banking (but we still get treats going to the drive-thru window); government and office buildings were not allowing visitors – we had to do our transactions online or over the phone. Most businesses scrambled to adopt a “BORK from home” environment where possible. But the biggest change for our maCares and faithCares service dog teams was the inability to gather and spend time together. There have been no bake sales, chili cook-offs, popping in to the Market America offices for an impromptu visit, no Run/Walk events, no food trucks, no in-PUPPER conventions to hang out in the booth promoting maCares and all the sights and smells that go along with that stuff…
So what have the teams been doing? Enquiring minds want to know!
They have been getting crafty and learning new things! And brainstorming different “virtual” ideas that we can offer to continue our fundraising efforts and awareness. Here is just a sampling:
▪ BO’s hooman, Michael Scott, has been creating wood burning projects – he says that is helps him relax and have more focus; here are a few of the items he has created! Aren’t they BO-tiful?!?!
▪ Mariea Harris and her guide dog, TIKI, continue to work on navigation to help Mariea get around more easily. Recently, they needed to go to a new doctor’s office/facility and there were many twisty turns to get to the room; TIKI remembered every one of them and was able to safely guide Mariea back to the front of the building – without even being told! PAWS UP for TIKI!
▪ Ben Miller and RED continue to work on their training. Ben is very happy with RED’s progress! When Ben received his second COVID vaccination, he didn’t feel well. As he was walking down the hall to lay down, his legs gave out and RED was there to help break Ben’s fall – PAWSOME job RED!!
I hope that everyone out there is making their way through the uncertainties and trying to have a little fun while doing it! I will have more updates from my buddies and their hoomans in future posts!
In the meantime, I hope you all stay safe and keep wagging your tails!
Wags and licks,
