Fridays with Faith

Faith Hinkley’s the name.  Love and support is my game.  Starting today, I will be entertaining, inspiring you and warming your heart every Friday.  Think of it as an end-of-the-week treat, from me to you.

I’m a 16 month-old Golden Retriever, but I’m far from your average dog.  Read on and I will tell you my story.

Something you may not know about me is that I’m named after someone special.  The flag that represents this great country flies high on the flag pole for my namesake’s sacrifice.  I am named in memory of US Army Sergeant Faith Hinkley, who died on August 7, 2010 in Iskandariya, Iraq. Faith was part of the 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

I was rescued and received special training to become a service dog for a veteran that suffers from PTSD and/or traumatic brain injuries.  I’m now “on duty” with Sgt. Terry White PH OIF, who I love unconditionally, with all my heart.  We have made a great difference in each others lives.  Through me, Faith Hinkley’s legacy is living on, helping and healing another wounded soldier.

To help you get to know me better, I have written a little bit about some of my favorite people, things, and pastimes.

My best friend is Terry.  I’m specially trained to help him with lots of things like sleep walking and night terrors.  I also help with daily tasks, provide a calming influence in stressful situations, and remind Terry to take his medication.   We love spending more time with his wife Jill, and his two kids – Caleb and Megan.

I love a good adventure!  My favorite place to go is wherever Terry is, but I particularly enjoy going to Chuck’s house to visit Nikki, visiting the Veterans Home in Salisbury, NC, going to ma Cares committee meetings at Market America, and walking on nature trails.

Did someone say TREAT?  What doggie doesn’t LOVE snack time?  Peanut butter and saltine crackers are my favorite treats!  I’m getting hungry just thinking about them!  It’s going to be ruff waiting until dinnertime!

Is it PLAYTIME yet?!  I’m pretty spoiled.  I’ve got lots of toys at home and Brandi even has a toy bin at her office at Market America just for Nikki and me.  I like anything that squeaks!

People say I’m quite talented, but I’m too humble to brag.  One of my hobbies is making paw print artwork.  I dip my paws in washable paint and skillfully place them on canvas.  Terry helps me to wash my paws afterwards, lest our house become my canvas too!  Speaking of my paws, I also enjoy pedicures.  I regularly exfoliate and moisturize using dirt from the holes I’ve dug in the backyard.  When I’m not making artwork or helping with the landscaping my favorite pastime is playing with my friends Nikki and Ruby.  Nikki is a fellow service dog, who lives with Terry’s friend, Chuck.  Ruby is my furry “sister”, a mini pin.

Thank you for reading my first post.  Come back next Friday for more fun, pearls of wisdom, and “tails” of others giving back to their communities!
