Fridays with FAITH: Memorial Motorcycle Ride Honoring Chuck Ladd

Hello my FAITH-ful readers! I hope you’ve been enjoying the warmer weather! Warm weather means we can get our paws on helping great causes while enjoying the outdoors. Be sure your ears are perked up for the announcement of this ‘pawsome’ event – the AGMC’s Inaugural Memorial Ride Benefiting maCares will be held on Saturday, September 23rd to honor the memory of Charles “Shellshock” Ladd. Known to the maCares family as Chuck, he sadly lost his battle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Proceeds from the Memorial Ride will benefit maCares to help improve the quality of life for veterans, children, and adults with service dogs.

My close friends Chuck and NIKKI, his service dog, were among one of the first maCares-sponsored teams, like Terry and me. Chuck was extremely passionate about maCares and helped spread awareness of the maCares initiatives, including the development of the faith Cares program for veterans with service dogs. He was always the first to volunteer to help, showing his wholehearted commitment to giving back to the community. Chuck also enjoyed being an active member and brother of the Americas Guardians Motorcycle Club Chapter based in Winston Salem.

Chuck served in the U.S. Army for 8 years, completing 2 combat tours in Iraq and 4 combat tours in Afghanistan. Staff Sergeant Ladd was a Purple Heart recipient and received many other medals during his tenure in the military. Unfortunately, Chuck lost his valiant, hard-fought battle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on February 7, 2016. Chuck’s wishes to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery were honored with the help of maCares/faith Cares and their supporters. NIKKI has retired from being a service dog and lives with Jessica, Chuck’s wife, in North Carolina.

The battle to help veterans overcome PTSD never ends. To help honor the memory of Charles “Shellshock” Ladd, please join us on Saturday, September 23rd at the American Legion Post 87 located at 409 W. High Avenue in High Point, NC. If you are not able to stop by the American Legion Post 87 on Saturday, September 23rd, you can show your support by making a tax deductible donation to maCares by visiting

Thank you for helping us to honor our dear friend Chuck! Be sure to check back soon for updates on upcoming news and events from yours truly.

Wags and licks,

My name is FAITH, and I'm a service dog to Sgt Terry White, PH IOF. You've probably seen me around the Market America office or at one of their events. I'm the pretty blonde with the big smile The wonderful maCares team is pretty fond of me, and they've decided to devote each Friday's blog post to my stories, pearls of wisdom, and "tails" of others giving back to their communities. We'll call it "Fridays with Faith". What you may not know about me is that I'm named after someone special. The flag that represents this great country flies high on the flag pole for my namesake's sacrifice. I am named in memory of U.S. Army Sergeant Faith Hinkley, who died on August 7, 2010 in Iskandariya, Iraq. Faith was part of the 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Through me, Faith Hinkley's legacy lives on, helping and healing another wounded soldier. maCares loves making a difference in the lives of veterans and animals. Please consider donating or getting involved with maCares so they can continue supporting veterans and dogs like Terry and me, and honoring heroes like Faith Hinkley.
