Hello my FAITH-ful readers! I hope you’ve had a great week! Our pack has some incredibly ‘paw-some’ news that will make your tail wag at super speed! We have a new addition to our pack- the dynamic duo of Maggie Moore & SUGAR is now part of the maCares Service Dog Support Program! I’m spinning in circles I’m so happy!!!
SUGAR threw me a bone and shared their story. She said that they sniffed each other for the first time in January 2015 when Maggie was 10 years old. SUGAR has her sweet name because she is a Diabetic Alert Dog. During SUGAR’s initial meeting with Maggie, she was able to detect Maggie’s blood sugar level was high. They tested Maggie’s blood sugar and discovered SUGAR was correct. She got some belly rubs for that!
Maggie loves to sing and SUGAR says she tries to be her backup singer, but her bark is off key. SUGAR says Maggie is ‘woof-tastic’ and will no doubt reach her dream of becoming a Country Music Singer. SUGAR tries to dance with Maggie too. Maggie also loves to attend concerts and play board games; SUGAR said she is good and doesn’t chew on the board games. Maggie is very active in her church youth group and loves to volunteer, especially for mission trips. Maggie and SUGAR speak to various groups and at events about how SUGAR is life changing and they spread awareness about proper service dog etiquette.
For over 2 years, SUGAR has been ‘dog-strumental’ in helping to manage Maggie’s blood sugar levels. SUGAR is helping Maggie to have a better quality of life now and for her future.
The pack and our humans are still celebrating Maggie & SUGAR joining the family! Please help us celebrate and support them! My name is FAITH, and I'm a service dog to Sgt Terry White, PH IOF. You've probably seen me around the Market America office or at one of their events. I'm the pretty blonde with the big smile The wonderful maCares team is pretty fond of me, and they've decided to devote each Friday's blog post to my stories, pearls of wisdom, and "tails" of others giving back to their communities. We'll call it "Fridays with Faith". What you may not know about me is that I'm named after someone special. The flag that represents this great country flies high on the flag pole for my namesake's sacrifice. I am named in memory of U.S. Army Sergeant Faith Hinkley, who died on August 7, 2010 in Iskandariya, Iraq. Faith was part of the 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Through me, Faith Hinkley's legacy lives on, helping and healing another wounded soldier. maCares loves making a difference in the lives of veterans and animals. Please consider donating or getting involved with maCares so they can continue supporting veterans and dogs like Terry and me, and honoring heroes like Faith Hinkley.
