Hello my FAITH-ful readers! I hope you’ve been enjoying jumping in piles of leaves this fall like I have! Take a break from the jumping and get your paws on some crayons or colored pencils to help my friends at maCares and faith Cares with honoring veterans!
maCares and faith Cares are trying to get their paws on thank you cards and artwork to honor hospitalized servicemen and women. Some of my pack of veterans, who are helped by the faith Cares program, will be at The Fitness Center at Kernersville on Wednesday, November 9th from 9 am – 12 pm and 4 pm – 7 pm to retrieve items expressing gratitude for a veteran’s service.
The thank you letters will be ‘paw’ delivered, by our faith Cares’ service dogs and their veterans, to hospitalized servicemen and women at the four Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in North Carolina.
Not sure what to draw? Be sure to download the faith Cares Service Dog coloring pages for you to color from http://www.macares.org/kids-corner.
Sgt. Keith Harrison (Retired), who served as a Combat Medic in the U.S. Army & U.S. Army National Guard for 24 years, shared what it means to a veteran to receive artwork or a letter. “Veterans enjoy cards just like when they served in combat and received letters from home. I received letters when I was in combat. Retired veterans need letters because a lot of them probably don’t have any family. To get something from somebody, even if they don’t know them, means the world. It reminds servicemen and women that we didn’t forget about them.”
The Fitness Center at Kernersville is located at 861 Old Winston Rd # 109 in Kernersville, NC. If you are not able to stop by The Fitness Center at Kernersville on Wednesday, November 9th, you can send drawings and/or letters of thanks to a veteran. Please email your artwork and/or letters to weCare@maCares.org. Artwork and letters can also be mailed to 1302 Pleasant Ridge Rd. Greensboro, NC 27409 Attn: maCares – 2016 Honoring Veterans. The delivery deadline is November 9th.
Thank you for helping us to honor veterans on this upcoming Veteran’s Day! Check back soon for updates on upcoming news and events from yours truly.

My name is FAITH, and I'm a service dog to Sgt Terry White, PH IOF. You've probably seen me around the Market America office or at one of their events. I'm the pretty blonde with the big smile The wonderful maCares team is pretty fond of me, and they've decided to devote each Friday's blog post to my stories, pearls of wisdom, and "tails" of others giving back to their communities. We'll call it "Fridays with Faith". What you may not know about me is that I'm named after someone special. The flag that represents this great country flies high on the flag pole for my namesake's sacrifice. I am named in memory of U.S. Army Sergeant Faith Hinkley, who died on August 7, 2010 in Iskandariya, Iraq. Faith was part of the 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Through me, Faith Hinkley's legacy lives on, helping and healing another wounded soldier. maCares loves making a difference in the lives of veterans and animals. Please consider donating or getting involved with maCares so they can continue supporting veterans and dogs like Terry and me, and honoring heroes like Faith Hinkley.
